Zenit’s comeback ends Marseille's UEFA Cup hopes

Russian football champions Zenit were the first team through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. The St Petersburg side recorded one of the great nights for Russian teams in Europe, with a thrilling 2-0 win over Marseille in their last 16 second leg clash.

3-1 down from the first leg, Zenit knew nothing but a 2 goal win would suffice at the Petrovskiy stadium.

And after a virtuoso display by big striker Pavel Pogrebnyak, they got it.

The Russian international finding the net in both halves to send the home fans in raptures.

So 2-0 on the night, 3-3 on aggregate – Zenit move through to the last 8 on away goals.
