Indians ward off cold with rugby

The words 'snow', 'rugby' and 'India' rarely figure in the same context but there are always exceptions to rules. Playing the game in very trying conditions is no problem in the fields of one of India's premier ski resorts, Gulmarg.

Both male and female players, of seemingly all ages, are getting to grips with a sport that has few followers in the Asian country.

This winter version of rugby though is becoming increasingly more popular in Northern India, and is to be included as a demonstration event in the upcoming National Winter Games.

The region now has eight rugby clubs and around 1,500 hundred players.
