St Pete's basks in tropical climate

In the deep of the Russian winter in St Petersburg you can find blooming orchids and butterflies. But it's not because of global warming. The tropics have found shelter in the city's Zoo. The colourful flowers and insects will be on show only for three weeks.
Twelve species of the largest and most colourful butterflies in the world twinkle like fireworks. Because of the severe Russian climate, they occupy a small room with an artificial tropical environment.
Unfortunately the beautiful creatures only live for about three weeks. But there is also an exhibition where the colour of small wings never fades. Butterflies from all over the world are kept in boxes. As the exhibition is designed mainly for children, there is no boring classification – just a lush patchwork of natural beauty.
