Vagit Alekperov is the latest Russian billionaire to be linked with an English Premier League side. Birmingham city is the club believed to be in the sights of the oil magnate.

Alekperov, president of Russia's largest oil company, Lukoil, has made enquiries via a third party about buying outright ownership of the midlands team.

Birmingham's managing director today confirmed the approach, following the apparent collapse of a previous bid for the club by Hong Kong businessman, Carson Yeung .

If successful he'll become the second Russian to take control of an English Premier League club, following Roman Abramovich at Chelsea. Alisher Usmanov has also bought a significant stake in Arsenal.
