Down and out CSKA ‘still motivated’: coach

CSKA Moscow may have out of the Champions League, but their coach says they won’t be missing motivation for their duel with Fenerbahce in Turkey on Wednesday evening.

Coach Valery Gazzaev says he’s ready to promote some youngsters for the final group game.

“Despite going out, we still should remain professional. Plus those players, who didn't play a lot of games during the season, and our youngsters have a great chance to make a debut in the Champions League. And this is their motivation,” Gazzaev said.

Tuesday saw six matches being played in three Champions League groups. Liverpool and Real Madrid both went through to the last 16 with stylish victories.

The English side’s win ended its impressive finishing run in group A with a 4-0 win at Marseille. Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babbel scored as Marseille were demolished.

Porto went through as well after beating Besiktas and finishing at the top of group.

Over in group C, Julio Baptista, Raul and Robinho scored for Madrid in a 3-1 win. Olympiacos join them in the knockout stage. But Lazio go out of Europe, as Werder Bremen got the UEFA Cup spot.

And in group B Chelsea made it fifty unbeaten home matches with a 0-0 draw against Valencia. German’s Schalke also went through, with Norway’s Rosenborg will move to the UEFA Cup.
