Football: Zenit crowned Russian champions

Published 11 November, 2007, 19:53

Zenit St Petersburg have beaten Saturn Ramenskoe 1-0 on the last day of the season to claim their first ever Russian Premier League title.

Czech midfielder Radek Sirk scored in the 15th minute when his shot was deflected into the Saturn net.

Zenit's rivals for the title, Spartak Moscow, won against city rivals Dynamo 2-1.

Unfortunately for Spartak, that wasn’t enough to overhaul Zenit's two-point advantage.

In the final standings, Spartak remain two points behind Zenit.

CSKA Moscow won 1-0 at Rubin Kazan to claim third place.
