Robot car race - wave of the future?

California was the scene recently of a futuristic sports event – a car race with robots at the wheel. They used such specially designed features such as on-board computers, cameras and lasers to get to the finishing line.
A team of engineers from Carnegie Mellon University was the winner with a $2 million prize in the Pentagon-sponsored robot race.
A former Air Force base was turned into an obstacle course for the competition.
