U.S. Open triumph for Russian-French double

Published 10 September, 2007, 07:30

Dinara Safina and her partner, Nathalie Dechy of France, have won the U.S. Open women’s doubles title. They beat fifth seeds Chan Yung-Jan and Chuang Chia-Jung of Taiwan 6-4 6-2.

The seventh seeds were better in a tight first set and then survived a few nerves in the second to clinch the title.

It was Safina's first Grand Slam title and Dechy’s third, apparently the partnership started with a text message which Dechy sent to another Russian player, Dinara’s friend, Maria Kirilenko.
