Anastasia Churkina

Anastasia Churkina is one of RT’s international correspondents.

She is currently based at RT’s New York bureau, covering stories that do not always receive the attention of the mainstream American media, such as fraud in the electoral process, voters’ rights and discrepancies in the election system.

Her work has taken her from Florida to California, crisscrossing the whole of the U.S. She was at the forefront of the coverage dedicated to America's historic presidential election, providing hard-hitting reports and interviews that received international acclaim.

Apart from crafted and insightful pieces, Anastasia is also an expert in covering stories live. She brings the latest developments right from the heart of the action. During Georgia’s war in South Ossetia, Anastasia covered the diplomatic battles at the United Nations in New York. Her live reports brought up-to-the-minute information, especially for RT’s views.

Anastasia has been with RT since the channel’s founding in 2005. Prior to her work in the US, she was a roving reporter, covering stories in Japan, China, Iran, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Belarus, Latvia and Kazakhstan. Often, her stories coincided with the Russian President and Foreign Minister’s visits to these countries.

She was the sole reporter in Tehran giving updates from an airplane ramp during Sergey Lavrov's talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

She also has vast experience in working inside Russia, having covered stories on the presidential and parliamentary elections. Her astute perception of international affairs has given her the opportunity to analytically report from the epicentres of action – from a CIS Summit in Dushanbe to Russian Presidential meetings with world leaders at the Kremlin.

After spending almost ten years studying in Belgium, Canada, and the U.S., Anastasia graduated from the Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO) as an International Law Specialist. She speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish in addition to her native Russian.

In her free time, she enjoys photography, traveling, contemporary literature and art.
